Scratched Room

‘One in Every Hundred’ 2008-

‘One in Every Hundred’ is an ongoing series based on psychiatric statistics and the media surrounding mental illness. The themes in this work are represented through repeat patterns, some of which are interrupted with marks and scars signifying the individuals struggle within the Irish health care system, example ‘95% Smoke’ ink on paper, surveys suggest that 95% of psychiatric patients are dependent on nicotine. After a trip to the ‘Prohibited District Berlin’ Germany, artwork such as ‘Scratched Room’ and ‘Precious Things’ explored themes around human conditioning, control, restrictions, space and rooms.
